♥ travel rules!

While other girls would be strolling down the streets shopping for dresses, heels and handbags, I would be at home, tuning into various Astro channels casting beautiful scenes from different countries. One of my favourite show is the Amazing Race Asia that they always show at AXN Channel 701, because you can follow the contestants' footsteps to the country they land their foot on just by sitting in front of the TV! :D

Yes, you got it right. I LOVE TRAVELLING. I want to go around the world. I want to explore the big world out there. I want to take many photos of me myself in front of the famous buildings/ places all over the world.

I want to travel everywhere!

Thus, I've decided to create a Globe about the 9 places that I would most want to travel to. To construct this 3D cube, I've used several types of materials, all listed in the list below.

1. 1 Polystyrene foam sphere (White)
2. A plastic curved-structure and base (to hold the sphere)
3. Acrylic paint (Blue and Yellow)
4. Paint brushes
5. Palette knife
6. Gesso

I started off by painting the globe using acrylic paint (Blue + Yellow = Green). I combined the green paint with some gesso, to create a rocky texture to separate and show the differences between the land's surface and the sea's surface. So basically, my globe has only two main colors: Green and Blue.

Later on, I selected 9 photos of the places that I would like to go. The 9 images are all in small icons so that they can be easily slotted into the polystyrene foam sphere. All the images are printed on Art Card instead of plain A4 paper because it requires certain thickness for the photos to fix still on the sphere.

As for the shape of the green land, I colored it with the reference from internet. I followed the shape of the land and trace it out on the sphere before I paint it. However, there are certain parts where the shapes are too small and fine that I could not paint. Therefore, my globe is actually not that accurate in the sense of particular small parts.

Waiting for the globe to dry. :)

After the sphere is completely dry, I use the blades to cut through the sphere's surface in order to make suitable slots for the images to be placed into. It is a hard job because I have to be extra careful of not to break the whole sphere.

Finally, my Globe is done!

The Globe is best viewed from top. :D

world map.

While doing research online, I came across a few lovely pictures related to the concept of my 3D cube, which is the world map. We are living in a BIG world. There are still so much places waiting for us to explore, to learn new cultures and to step into a different realm.

I've been living in Malaysia for 12 years already (my hometown is Taiwan). Malaysia is just a small piece of land in this big, wide world. I'm determined to see more of this world. ;)

This is a nice wallpaper that I would like to have!

This one is funny! See carefully, the world map is actually printed on the cow's skin! LOL xD
